The Savings and Income Protection picture across the UK: are you 26 days from the breadline?

The average UK household overall is 26 days from the breadline, but this reduces to just 11 days for those of working age (18-64 years old). People estimate their savings will last them 72 days – almost three times the actual deadline to exhausting reserve funds. Wales and the North East have the shortest deadlines in the UK of just 11 days and a third of Britons (33%) still have no savings.

Borrowers may have to wait weeks for branch adviser meetings

Borrowers could be forced to wait weeks for an appointment with lenders’ mortgage advisers after the Mortgage Market Review as firms race to get qualified staff in place.

Last week, a business development manager at one of the UK’s biggest lenders warned brokers at a Sesame Live conference that customers could expect waiting times of up to a month to see a lender’s in-branch mortgage adviser.

Budget 2014: How the Pensions System changed forever

Following the Budget statement in March, the Government has unveiled plans to completely overhaul the UK’s current pension system.

From April 2015, from age 55, whatever the size of a person’s defined contribution pension pot, the Government proposes that they’ll be able to take it however they want, subject to their marginal rate of income tax in that year.

The latest Legal & General ‘Mortgage Mood’ survey reveals that two thirds of consumers (65%) are not financially preparing for an interest rate rise in the next two years. At the same time, only 7% of those polled are considering re-mortgaging their home in the next 12 months.
