The Guardianâs bid for Financial Headline of the Year brought down the curtain on âBlack Fridayâ and heralded âCyber Monday.â Black Friday is the Friday before the Thanksgiving weekend in the US: it is supposed to be the day on which stores move into profit for the year as eager shoppers â seduced by special offers â flood the malls.
